When high jumping athletes are asked to jump in a way the is different than other types of jumps. The athlete must jump while leaning in a running in a circular path. Below are two clips that help high jumpers lean in while they are jumping. Both clips feature Travis Geopfert, University of Arkansas Assistant Coach. In the first clip he teaches jumpers how to run in a circle with proper technique, feeling the bend at the ankle. In the second clip he demonstrates a drill he calls “Circle Pops” designed to teach the athlete to jump while leaning in.
