For high school coaches, managing multiple event groups at the same time (as well as managing training for athletes who compete in multiple event groups) is a significant issue that can drastically impact the individual and group success of your team and program.
It’s one of the most consistent and popular questions I get.
There are several takeaways from the video below. The obvious ones are the specific options and examples each of the coaches (myself, Kebba Tolbert, Ron Grigg, and Gabe Sanders) give.
But, in my opinion, the most important one comes from the, um, *commonality* between each coach’s response.
If you’re a high school coach who struggles with figuring out optimal training in less than optimal settings: cold weather, no track access (training in the hallways), large group sizes, minimal staffing, etc., then understanding this principle and how to apply it across the totality of training is critical to planning administering effective training.
Once you understand this principle of utilizing a commonality based approach to training, you’ll immediately begin to gain a better understanding of your activity and exercise selections.
